1 in 25 people in Newham are homeless. Instead of providing public housing, investing in public healthcare, and protecting workers rights, the government prefers to support an industry of death. One of the world’s largest arms fairs, DSEI, is returning to our doorstep (at the ExCel) and we’ll be there to resist!
State officials from all over the world will be welcomed to shop for weapons, technologies and equipment used to repress, kill and torture. Instead of fighting rising inequality, the government is welcoming and promoting terror.
This is where those who profit from war and repression do business. This is where we can stop them. This is where we will shut it down. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Fi3Z22K3KI)
In the face of such grave injustice, we will bring joyful resistance. Saturday 7th September will be a space to bring our struggles together, to dance, and to learn. We’ll be shedding light on issues of local democracy and international solidarity.
Alongside performances, fun activities for children and youth, and lots of yummy food, there will be workshops, panels, and opportunities to learn about specific topics (like renters rights), to learning how to investigate a dodgy-looking company and organise collectively.
Join us in the evening for dinner and an outdoor film screening of Nae Pasaran: a film showcasing the powerful solidarity between workers in Scotland with the people of Chile under Pinochet in the 1970s. We’ll end the night with an amazing panel discussing how we can learn from this powerful resistance and solidarity in our fight against the arms trade today. We won’t allow DSEI to happen on our doorstep. This is where war starts, and this is where we’ll stop it.
