XR North and friends are hosting a day of action focused on the inextricable link between climate breakdown and the arms industry.
Join for talks and educational chats around themes such as ‘War is Ecocide’ and ‘Conservation Colonialism’, and use your voice and body to resist DSEI.

Why are we resisting DSEI?
War is Ecocide.
Nothing is more devastating and destructive to human beings than war… OR in fact, to the rest of the living world.
From immediate pollution of water, land, and air, to the use of armed assault on indigenous communities to further pillage the ecosystems that they protect, to the fact that the U.S. military is the single largest institutional emitter of carbon on Earth, there is no ‘greening’ militarism, there is no ‘eco’-war.
To deal with a future rocked by escalating ecological crises, it is going to take utterly unprecedented levels international cooperation and collaboration. Armed conflict between and within nation-states is the absolute polar opposite of this; one future cannot exist with the other.
If we fail to change course, we know what a future of militarism and ecological collapse will look like – authoritarian governments using weapons to brutally suppress their own populations, states using open aggression to enable more overt resource grabs as essential resources become more scarce, increasingly deadly militarised borders enforced to meet the millions of desperate people driven from their homes by disasters…
And profiting from all of this, will be the arms trade…
DSEI (the Defence and Security Equipment International) is one the worlds biggest arms fairs, where the biggest dealers of death meet and greet the worst perpetrates of violence and repression. From Saudi Arabia’s genocidal assault on Yemen, to the Turkish state’s attacks on the Kurds, to Israel’s ongoing colonisation of Palestine, DSEI is where the mass-murderers come to browse and compare the best ways to kill.
And all of this is actively facilitated by the British government. Britain plays a unique role in the global arms trade, and so we in Britain have a particular responsibility to act in solidarity with those suffering from the effects of this grotesque industry, to resist, disrupt and defeat it here.
If enough if us come, together, we CAN StopTheArmFair
Come to protest against the whole set-up of DSEI from 6th September, or come along on the 10th for a day of talks about the meaning of war as ecocide, climate justice, and international solidarity.

We urge those coming to any action to be COVID-safe, to protect our community and make this protest accessible to all.  Please take a test before coming, bring sanitiser and respect those who want to social distance.  Bring your own water bottle and mugs to get drinks on site!

Information about your legal rights on protests.  Take the time to learn your rights before attending the week of action, for your own protection and the protection of those around you.

***IMPORTANT***

It is crucial that everyone joining this wonderful week of resistance adheres to the Stop the Arms Fair Safer Spaces Policy.  Please also take a look at Campaign Against Arms Trade’s Action Guidelines on interactions with the police – who protect the arms trade, are part of the arms trade, and are institutionally racist – and on directing our protest at the arms industry (and so being mindful of the local community!).

Green and Black Cross will be coordinating legal observers throughout the week of action.
