Join us for a selection of talks and workshops exploring how our education systems currently partner with the arms trade and support world wide injustice.

Calling all students!

This is a safe space for all to join, learn, connect and strengthen our university movements and beyond!

All welcome!

Our universities play a crucial role in supporting the arms trade through corporate-military research partnerships, investments, sponsorships, grant funding, and recruitment – so demilitarising our universities is a crucial part of resisting the arms trade and wider patterns of militarism within our society.

Every 2 years, some of the largest arms companies in the world come together at DSEI to exhibit and sell their weapons. These companies operate with impunity, continuing to sell their weapons to human rights abusing states despite their use in facilitating war crimes and other violations of international law. As conflicts across the world from Yemen, Palestine, to Kashmir continue; as the environment becomes increasingly polluted and the climate increasingly unstable: these companies make a profit at every phase. From the brutal repression of locals resisting the exploitation of land and resources in the extraction process; to their use in war; by the police against civilians protesting for their rights and freedoms; and against refugees at the borders. The arms trade is embedded in, and plays a vital role in maintaining an unjust, unsustainable, exploitative global system of trade and conflict.

As part of the week of resistance against DSEI, this day is dedicated to exploring resistance in education. Come and join CAAT, dED_ucation, Disarm Oxford, Demilitarise UCL and other groups for workshops and discussions on campaigning against the arms trade in our universities.

Share the Facebook event and eventbrite.

Information about transport to the site and accessibility.  If you need to know information that is not currently on this page, or to let us know about an access need, get in touch at resistDSEI@protonmail.com.

We urge those coming to any action to be COVID-safe, to protect our community and make this protest accessible to all.  Please take a test before coming, bring sanitiser and respect those who want to social distance.  Bring your own water bottle and mugs to get drinks on site!

Information about your legal rights on protests.  Take the time to learn your rights before attending the week of action, for your own protection and the protection of those around you.

***IMPORTANT***

It is crucial that everyone joining this wonderful week of resistance adheres to the Stop the Arms Fair Safer Spaces Policy.  Please also take a look at Campaign Against Arms Trade’s Action Guidelines on interactions with the police – who protect the arms trade, are part of the arms trade, and are institutionally racist – and on directing our protest at the arms industry (and so being mindful of the local community!).

Green and Black Cross will be coordinating legal observers throughout the week of action.
