On course for net zero? Not while the arms trade fans the flames of war!

When

Friday 8 September 2023
12:00 - 16:00

Where

Department for Energy and Net Zero
1 Victoria Street, London, , SW1 0ET

This will be a non-confrontational event, leafleting and engaging with members of the public to raise awareness of the issues involved. We have one government department employing civil servants at taxpayers’ expense to promote the arms trade which fans the flames of war, while another department works to fulfil government obligations to achieve net zero but without considering the significant contribution of military-related emissions. These two are not compatible. Greening of the military is not a credible solution. There is no expectation of arrest.

Fully accessible on level pavements. Rest & relaxation with a cafe and toilets available at nearby Methodist Central Hall, Westminster but note that the cafe/toilets close at 4pm. Also nearby: Starbucks at 25 Victoria Street and public 50p toilets.

If a lot of people come to support this action, some may decide to transfer to outside the Ministry of Defence in Whitehall. The message and flyer are equally applicable.

Arms deals made at DSEI in the ExCeL Centre will contribute to the already considerable GHG emissions resulting from military-related activity. We must recognise these emissions and take urgent action to reduce them. It is imperative that we find better more civilised methods than warfare of resolving our disputes. Our resources and skills should be used to promote life and peace.
