Twitter on the day

September 5, 2011

If you want to keep in contact with everyone else on the day, then Twitter is a really useful resource for you.

Don’t worry if even the word Twitter scares you away — it is just a website where people can post short messages. Here is a step-by-step walkthrough to using Twitter to keep up-to-date!

If you have a smartphone

If you have a Twitter account already: keep your eye on the #StopDSEI hashtag.

If you do not have a Twitter account: go to twitter.com and search for “stopdsei” to see what people are saying

If you do not have a smartphone

If you do have a Twitter account, and it is not connected to your mobile, then see this walkthrough video to see how you can both receive and send tweets by text. The hashtag to watch is #StopDSEI.

If you do not have a Twitter account: simply text the words “Follow StopDSEI” to 86444 (without the quotation marks).

  • If you want to stop the texts for whatever reason, text STOP to the same number; to start them again, text ON.
  • This method will send out at most five updates every 30 minutes to stop you getting flooded with texts.
  • Depending on your phone plan, this may or may not cost you money – see this Twitter help page for more info.
  • For more information about the text commands you can send, see this Twitter page (ignore that they say to text 40404 as that’s for the USA).
