Organised by Movement for the Abolition of War and Kingston Peace Council, this will be a non-confrontational event, leafleting and engaging with members of the public (and possibly government employees?!) to raise awareness of the arms fair in East London, the promotion it receives from the government at taxpayers’ expense and the nature of the trade itself. There is no expectation of arrest.

UK Defence & Security Exports, part of the Department for Business & Trade, is housed in The Old Admiralty Building. Over 100 staff are employed (at taxpayer expense) to promote weapons sales. It invites delegations to the fair from around the world, including well-documented human rights abusers such as Saudi Arabia and Israel, provides guides and escorts and arranges demonstrations of equipment.

We will raise awareness by leafleting (leaflets provided) and engaging with passers-by, of the enormous DSEI arms fair taking place at the ExCeL Centre in East London and of the government department, housed near here, dedicated to supporting and promoting this murky trade.

MEET Trafalgar Theatre, 14 Whitehall, SW1A 2DY 7.50am, prior to leafleting outside the Dept for Business & Trade. Exact location for leafleting may depend on the number of volunteers, number of passers-by and other circumstances. Contact numbers for the day 07759 540441 and 07741 459100.

The main times of the day will be 8am-6pm with particular focus 8-10am and 12noon-2pm.

Fully accessible on level pavements. Nearby St Martin in the Fields’ crypt can be used for rest & relaxation with a cafe and toilets.
