Why Take Action?

One of the world’s largest arms fairs, DSEI, is returning to London this September. We’re planning to shut it down!

This year at Conference at the Gates (CATG), we’re focusing on understanding and resisting DSEI collectively: we want this fight to be a collective one; we want the arms trade to be exposed for what it is – a system that upholds racist, colonial, patriarchal, oppressive systems whilst it demands various oppressions to continue.

Join us on Thursday 5th September we’re we’ll be working collectively to re-think and act on the militarisation and securitisation of the spaces that we occupy in society and the consequential impacts.

CATG this year will be focused on the arms trade specifically in the context of state violence, shedding light on the issue of race that has for far too long been ignored. It will be an opportunity to (un)/learn from + with community organisers, youth, students and academics – protesting whilst sharing knowledge & showcasing that knowledge and power are not exclusive to seminars at universities and the traditional academic bubble.

What’s Happening?

There’ll be workshops, panels, skill shares and creative activities. Here are the titles for some so far, but timings, speakers and details of programme are to be released soon:

  • Militarisation of the police & state violence
  • Decolonising Economics
  • Empire in Arms
  • Resisting racist, militarised and patriarchal entities
  • Resisting militarised borders in education
  • How to win on campus?
